Point to Point
It’s nearly here again – a month to go and it’s our annual Point‐to‐Point – SATURDAY 1st JUNE at GARTHORPE near Melton Mowbray.
Of course, the sun will be shining! So, come and bring the family, a picnic and spend a day in the lovely Leicestershire countryside?
Of course, there’s the Racing but there’s more…
This year we are opening the gates early to stage a Fun Run around the track (1 lap for children and 2 for adults) to raise funds for the Air Ambulance. If you take part in this, we are offering you FREE entry to the racing later.
There’s a licensed Bar, Bookies, Bouncy Castles and some brilliant food outlets if you don’t want to do your own catering.
Our outline programme is as follows:
11.00am Junior Fun Run
1.45pm 2 Pony Races
2.30pm the 1st of 7 Point to Point Jumps Races
3.45pm Hound Parade
5.55pm Final Race
Do please come, we’d love to see you there.
Don’t want to miss the fun but can’t be bothered to drive??
- Coach to and from The Buttercross at Abbots Bromley (leaving at 10am)
- A bacon roll to start your day

Saturday 2nd June 2018 - Garthorpe, LE14 2RS
Those with the technology tell me that storms were swirling around us but good old Garthorpe was at its glorious best and any waterproofs that had been brought remained unused. Footfall wasn’t great but the atmosphere was and those that did come were treated to a really good day’s racing. Yet again, thanks to the hours and endless hard work put in by those involved in preparing the course, we were rewarded with 53 runners from 81 horses entered and, once again, we delivered the best racing of the 5 meetings held at Garthorpe.
The first 2 races got us off to an inauspicious start with 2 horses slipping up on the flat, then 1 with post-race heat stress. Pleased to say that all returned home unscathed and it was onwards and upwards from there culminating with an in-house winner, owned by David Prince and ridden by his son George in the Fisher German Restricted. Celebrations were well underway as we were packing up!
Volunteers are a rare breed in this day and age. We’re all busy, so thank you for giving up your valuable time and for doing such a good job.
The same could be said of Sponsors but we are blessed to have the backing of some very loyal and generous supporters. Thank you to: Cawarden Holdings, Fisher German LLP, Bowcock & Pursaill Solicitors, Richard Winterton Auctioneers, Geldards Law Firm, Alrewas Hayes and Robert Baskerville our Race Sponsors; not to mention Alan Brown Surfacing, Howkins & Harrison, Roger Hough, De Monfort Fine Arts, Rea Valley Tractors and Tandom Metallurgical who all sponsored Fences.
If you came, we hope you enjoyed your day; and if you didn’t, you missed a great day out. So, we hope you’ll come and join us next year: SATURDAY, 1st JUNE, 2019.
